Hi, from Northern NSW Australia
hi,
just a general g'day to all the crew on here and a bit about myself. ive just moved over to northern NSW from the west coast and im currently in the process of looking around to try to find the right boat and also learning as much as i can and meeting some interesting people along the way.
I've done allot of work on boats, more motor than sail, but have done a bit of sailing and have decided to finally make good on my threats of buying myself a yacht. i will post a discussion as to what I'm looking for and budget etc in another area and hopefully will be able to get some pointers there.
would be great to meet some crew that are on the same path that I'm on and to have a chat to those who are all ready well on their way living their dream.
josh

G'Day Josh,
Yeah, that's not a great location for sailing activities in serious boats!
Obviously, Southport and Moreton Bay are hotspots of activity, especially the latter. It is easy to pick up rides at RQYS for their WAGS races on Wedneday arvos... just show up and make yourself known as a wannabe crew. Lots of good folks at MBTBC too. Southport (to me) seems a bit more about flash than sailing, but there are a lot of boats there... just not as many sailors!
Let us know how your efforts go.
Cheers,
Jim

Jim,
thanks for that. Yeah I'm looking in to where has a good sailing scene going on. Gonna base myself here in ocean shores for a bit then see where I head to from there.
Been getting a few cruising opportunities on a web site called find a crew, so been doing some crewing on my time off.
Where abouts are you based?

Re: Hi from Northern NSW Australia
G'Day Josh,
We're not based anywhere! We've been cruising a long time, usually spend the cyclone season in Oz, sometimes NZ, and the winters in one of the island groups. In recent years mostly NCal and Vanuatu, with one trip up to Cairns to see friends.
Over the years we have done some of our marina based maintenance at MBTBC in Manly, and have found it to be a good environment for us. As I said, lots of local sailing/cruising/racing going on in that community, and friendly folks around. Also a good place for folks without a car. Most services within walking distance, and access to public transportation is easy.
We have also spent a lot of time on the Clarence River... a great spot, but not so good for picking up good rides. And too, some time in Broken Bay and 8 trips to Tassie -- another superb cruising ground, at least during its so-called summer!
Anyhow, for the past few months Insatiable has been laid up on Lake Macquarie whilst we are in the States getting Ann fitted with two new knees. We're anxious to get back, but it will be a while yet.
Cheers,

Welcome Josh, I'm up in Townsville at the moment and saw your post on findacrew. Too bad you can only do 4.3 weeks! We're looking for someone to do 3-1/2 months to Tailand Sept.1. Good luck on your boat search. Greg
Jim, We're from Long Beach, Ca.. Left in '06. What part are you from?

G'Day Greg,
We left SF in October '86, eventually got stuck in the South Pacific Eddy after a year and a half in Mexico. Been around here ever since. Oops, can't say "here" 'cause we ain't there! Anyhow, good luck with finding some crew.
Cheers,
