Hi from Albany Western Australia
Just retired and ready to sail away on my 34 foot yacht RENE. Have sailed in the waters from Shark Bay down to Albany WA for the past 30 years. Now ready to sail accross the Great Australian Bight to the eastern states and beyond, starting this April 2013. The boat is almost ready to go, but having a few issues with the wind vane">Aries Wind Vane steering system when sailing downwind - hope to have it fixed in the next week or so.

Re: Hi from Albany Western Australia
Welcome to Cruisers Forum, RENE AQ270! We sailed from Adelaide in November 2011, so if we can help with any info of anchorages in that area let us know. Make sure you stop at Kangaroo Island if you can
Good luck with your preparations!

Welcome aboard, Rene! Looking at the chart...where on earth is ROO island? The islands of Australia are: Whitsunday, Lizard and Heron (all on the Great Barrier Reef, one of my favorite dive destination)...oh yes, forgot Tasmania! <taking cover, before Aussies start shooting at me!> Mauritz

Re: Hi from Albany Western Australia
Dont worry Teknav, we dont carry guns in Oz!
Kangaroo Island is Australia's third-largest island, after Tasmania and Melville Island. It lies in the state of South Australia 112 km (70 mi) south-west of Adelaide at the entrance to Gulf St Vincent. Its closest point to the mainland is 13 km (8 mi) off Cape Jervis on the tip of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Oh, and its a totally wild, awesome place to visit!

Re: Hi from Albany Western Australia
Welcome aboard, Rene! You are setting out on some of the best Aussie cruising. Plenty of Nature and isolation from the herd.
Best advice we can give you is to stop by our website for some of our cruising notes covering that area. Find the "anchorages" tab. Plenty of good goss there. Wish we could join you. Cheers
the Recherche Archipelago is awesome -
