Hi everyone! Landlubber here looking to become a proper sailor!

Hi. I'm a guy in this 30s. I've been on a sailboat exactly once in my life. That said, I've always been curious and I've always been drawn to long journeys.

I want to learn as much as I can over the next 20 years so one day I can captain my own ship and explore the world.

Any tips on how to begin? I live near Baltimore and Annapolis, so right now the plan is to take lessons at one of the harbors when it warms up and I've been vaccinated. I've got a few sailing and ship maintenance books on my Christmas list. Hopefully one day I'll be able to crew a boat and maybe help someone out with repairs so I can get in there and get my hands dirty.

Any tips and advice would be enormously welcome. Thank you and happy sailing!

Welcome to cf!
The best way to learn to sail is to go sailing. Any way you can!!!
Lessons, clubs, co-ops, charters, owning, crewing, racing, or bribing your way onboard with beer!
You are in a great location, get out on the water and have fun
Let us know how it goes

Re: Hi everyone! Landlubber here looking to become a proper sailor!

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat made & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

If you need further help let me know, I would be happy to.
