Hi everyone

Hi everyone, we would like to introduce ourselves, we are Kath and Rod Lewis who have been living aboard for well now entering our 29th year!!, we have a 50ft Kelsall Tonga cat which we love dearly, we've slowly upgraded from a 35ft Duncanson sloop to a 43ft ketch and now the cat which we purchased in 2008, we live in Adelaide Sth Australia aboard the cat with all our cruising done in Aus but as I'm getting closer to retirement the big cruise is getting closer, love reading these forums as there is always something new or something to learn.

Regards from Adelaide.

Re: Hi everyone

g'day Rod and Kath, and welcome aboard CF. Not many of us around that have lived aboard as long as you and we have, especially in Oz where it is kinda discouraged in many places.

So, where is the retirement cruise gonna take you? Ours started in San Francisco in 1986, and Oz is as far as we've managed... stuck in the South Pacific Eddy, we are!

Hope our wakes cross one day.

Jim

Re: Hi everyone

G'day Jim, can't ever see us moving ashore at any time soon, living aboard in Aus has never felt shunned against, at the moment we are in Adelaide where we own a 18mtr multihull berth where there is around 12 boats out of 65 berths in our particular section that are perminate live aboards, it's a great community, retirement, mmm, no destination, no time limit just let the bow line go, therw are some really nice cruising areas in Sth Aust if you can stand the cooler months, gulfs, islands some great anchorages, but you never know Jim, look out for the cat "Doublebubble".

Stay Safe and happy cruising.
Cheers Rod & Kath.

Hi again! Re the above comment... well, don't come to the sovereign state of NSW... you will get a severe culture shock. Definitely discouraging to liveaboards, anchor outs or other low life, non-condo dwelling folks.

Queensland is rapidly following their lead, too...

Re: Hi everyone

I do believe there's been some changes Jim, we did cruise from Adelaide, Tasmania up thw east coast to as far as townsville back in "91" to "95" and didn't really notice any issue's then but hey as we know the world has changed.

Cheers Rod Lewis.

Re: Hi everyone

I found Tasmania to be very ‘live aboard’ friendly with lots of wonderful free anchorages and moderately priced marina @ Prince of Wales Bay when wanting to leave the boat safely. Jim mentions how negative some places are in NSW to anchor....here I’ll mention Mooloolabah. However, the Clarence River is very welcoming at Iluka and up river @ McLean. My favourite in Qld is Airlie Beach with close proximity to Whitsunday Islands, and on the way there, Southports bums bay & the Broadwater.
