Hi - Cool Site ! Question: Best Picks for Liveaboard / Cruising Combo

Hi,

Looking to get a good combo boat for liveaboard and (sometimes) single hand circumnavigation..thinking 37-48' (thinking I may be living/traveling for 10 yrs on this boat) not rich...not poor..putting together a spec / logistics list

any info is welcome...from liveaboardians and/or magellans..

-can you write off your interest on boat mortgage if its your house?

-your pick(s) for most sturdy/seaworthy/aesthetic/easy to sail/ergonimic/comfortable/minimum maint/best ways to buy etc

- any of you coastal cruisers seen monohulls outfitted with wave runners for coastal/surf exploration?

- anyone out there have a cruising and/or liveaboard check list in word you can email me?

estimated liveaboard cost in so cal 600 ish?
estimated cost per month to cruise in some style 1500?

If you anchor between san diego and santa barabara - Dinner and/or drinks to best answers (if you make the winners list, but are on the ocean we'll hold your spot untill you anchor

Thanks in advance,

John

Sure, there are a few monohulls that have an odd jet ski or sixteen aboard:

Not retired, just needed a change of pace. The "east" would be eastern europe, where i was born. welcome aboard the CF.

John,
It is unlikely that you'll find a live-aboard in S. California for a 37'-48' boat for $600/month. I had a hard time finding slips in Long Beach, San Pedro, Redondo, MDR, Channel Islands and Ventura for a 35' boat, not live-aboard, for less then $600. I'm not sure about Oceanside, San Diego, and live-aboard.

marina slippage for that size boat in sd for living aboard can be from 130 dollars per month on a mooring, 260 is transient mooring, to 2000 for certain slips in certain marinas including living aboard fees......that is PLUS your boat mortgage, btw.....

welcome aboard...

Not knowing your sailing ablities (or physical condition), I'd recommend going smaller if you are going to single hand. You could outfit a much larger boat to make it a good deal easier to single hand though.

Anyway, welcome to the site.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. Wave runners to cruising sailors are like yellow jackets to picnickers except way more irritating. I've seen them cruising through moored sailboats at 10 plus knots with absolutely no regard to their wake.
kind regards,

John,
Welcome aboard CF!
We're presently paying $600/mo for our 30 footer, at Island Yacht Anchorage in L.A. Harbor, including liveaboard($339 without liveaboard). Haven't seen better in the area.
