Hi all! Newbie to the max here, help me not sink my Newport 27!

So I just purchased a 27 foot Newport for my 6 year old daughter and I to live aboard and cruise the Gulf of Mexico and the Carib a bit. I have no clue what I'm doing of course, but I do have lots and lots of time. I'm hoping that you lovely old salts will help guide us in the right direction when (don't worry) the search function let's me down. I would GREATLY appreciate connecting with anyone who is sailing the same boat, or cruising with children, as I'm not sure how long I can keep lying to my mom about knowing "tons" of families raising children on sailboats before she starts asking specifics....
Cheers, yall.

Welcome aboard Jordan. Sounds like a great adventure for you and your daughter.

Two different and integrated skills. Sailing & maintaining and boat vs. Living aboard and raising a child...

Lots to learn.

Learning to sail and cruise on a sailboat your size should not be a problem. If the yacht is in good shape, and if you have a positive attitude about the challenges that you face, you should do fine.

I believe that smaller yachts are better when you are getting started out. Things are more manageable and affordable.

Go for it.

Big kids, big problems. Big boats, same thing really. Enjoy them both while they are small.

Welcome to the forum.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Have you tried here?

Cruising with Children - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

And, I always recommend a basic sailing course for those who haven't had one.
