Hi All - Im retiring and going sailing

Greetings - I am 53 years old, retired with 7 grown kids. I have a B&B on the water in the Puget Sound (Washington State-USA) I am narrowing down my choice of sail boats to acquire. Looks like a Fermosa 51 is what I will get.

Will sail to ak. next season then back to gig harbor, WA. Maybe another year up to AK then to Hawaii/South Pacific.

Im trying to get a boat that I can afford under 200K that is sound, safe and fun. If you have any ideas be sure to let me know.

Tim

Welocme aboard and good luck:

look at the mahina site Mahina Expedition - Offshore Cruising Instruction to help in your boat selection. I think that it is a good idea to have a number of different types of boats that you like to take under consideration and then find the best value from that group.

Welcome aboard Cruisers Forum, Tim.

Sounds like a well deserved change of pace coming up. Good luck in your boat search.

Have you got much sailing experience?

Aloha Tim,
Welcome aboard! That's a lot of boat. It really is good to look around a great deal before settling on a particular boat. You didn't mention your sailing experience so I'll assume you have some. Maybe some of your sailing buddies will talk up the attributes of their boats and can suggest makes and models. I like something up to 36 LOD but that's just my opinion.
Kind regards,
JohnL

Just for fun since you're up in the PNW, why not give Robert Perry a call and contract him as a consultant to help find a boat for you. I think it would be fun to talk to him and considering the investment, it might be money well spent.
