I have sailed on a
Bavaria 46 as well, albeit older than what you are looking at. It's a fast
boat even in light air.
Raw water cooling system on that boat was somewhat difficult to access and trouble shoot.
We raced that boat N2E this year. Got caught in gale force winds at 2 am off the coast of
Mexico with some pretty substantial swells. The following from the
skipper that night:
"A course that varied 90 degrees every couple of minutes due to swells and gusts. Boom in the
water as often as it was out.
For a good part of our shift the winds were variable in speed but consistent in direction. There was a period of about 45 minutes where the direction changed dramatically. Two boats that went inside as we did and finished around the same time in the morning were spun around 360' between 2 and 3 am."
Bottom line - the boat held up and we finished the
race. Like with the Hanse, Germans seem to build good boats.
