Hey folks,
I've been lurking for about a year. I figured it was finally time to say hello. I am new to sailing. Up until recently my
boating experience has been predominantly in a canoe that I bought for a hundred bucks on Craig's list. The paddle cost more than the
boat. The
boat had a few holes in it so I got to learn how to
work with fibre glass. Fun.
I've been hesitant to make my first post because I, too, am a
newbie with the dream of becoming a
live aboard and sailing around the world. It seems like there have been a lot of that going around on this forum. So I've spent the year with my ears open and my mouth shut.
I just finished an
introduction course on sunfish's to get some of the basics down. Then I found a place in my area, Crystal Lake, that rents American 14.6 boats for only $8 an hour. So I'm getting my practice in until the season is over.
My next step is to get a
small boat, maybe a Coronado 25. From what I have seen
for sale, I could buy one of those for the same
price as taking lessons on a big boat.
That's it for now. Just trying to take the dream one step at a time.
Thanks for the forum. I've been
learning a lot.
