Hey CFers- New Guy Looking for Ideas

Long time reader... first time poster.

Here's my story;

My fiance and I have been sailing in the Pacific NW for the past 3 years, racing mostly (2 to 3 times per week) on lots of dif boats with a few longer voyages under our belt. We now feel that we are ready to buy our own boat to live on and sail north to Northern British Colombia all within the next 3-4 months for a work opportunity.

We have been shopping for a year now, mainly so we could get a feel for the process, the market and to just get on as many boats as we can to ascertain which fits us the best. We are realizing that with our 75k budget we will have to make sacrifices but would like to be on a boat that has some room to move around on deck and down below, sails "well", can handle the weather up north, and has all the basics that a liveaboard would want.

-Id love to hear folk's suggestions on the boat make youd think would be a good fit.

-Would also like to know what steps we'd need to take in order to keep our boat in CA waters for longer than the 45 day limit. Can we register it in WA and be in CA for most of the year?

Feel free to ask questions, ill try and look back often.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

US citizens leave boats up here all the time. You may have to pay a bond though. Prehaps this link will help:

Winter weather on the north coast may not be what you're used to. Where are you planning on going?

re:

Thanks for the website, I wasnt able to find the details on how to go about bringing a US private vessel into canadian waters for an extended period. From what ive noticed, the govt's websites are somewhat vague about these matters. Id love to hear from someone who has done this.

The plan is to navigate regularly between Hartley Bay and Bella Bella. I dont have much of an idea of the weather except to expect cold and rain on most days and sizable storm systems rolling through from time to time. I have been told that there are an abundance of sheltered anchorages between the two ports.

Any info is appreciated. I am fairly certain that im in over my head, what I dont know is HOW deep.
