Hi all. Just to say hello and I look forward to virtually meeting you all.

Clearly I’ve registered with an agenda lol. I want you to tell me how stupid my dream is.

My background is I’ve had numerous boats over the past 30 years but always speedboat types (one rib for a diving fad) but I fully acknowledge these are not ‘proper’ boats.

I’ve always wanted a sailing yacht. But never been brave enough to buy one (or patient enough to learn).

So onto my life dream. I’ve always wanted to sail from the UK to and around the Med and I’m at a stage of my life where if I don’t plan things, it’s never going to be anything other than a dream. I could be 3 or longer years away from having the opportunity (money/time) to be able to do this.

Some questions (in no particular order):

Do I learn on a small sailing yacht and gradually get bigger or go fo something large to start with (if so what size).

Assuming I’ve learnt/practiced sufficiently. How achievable is it to go this kind of distance (just me and the wife)

I’m not made of money lol. How much will I need to spend on a boat to do this (roughly) and how much does it cost to moor (roughly).

These are probably numpty questions so I apologise, but I need to get myself in or out of this life’s ambition!
