Hello, New and Learning in San Francisco

Hi,

It has been nice to have all this information close by. This is a great website and I thank everyone evolved.

I have been excited and always curious about sailing and living on a sailboat. I love to travel and feel the experience of sailing is a must among life goals. I have been reading about sailing a lot in the last 2 yrs and been looking for good boats and a boat that will suit my expectations.

I decided it is finally a perfect time in my life to do this challenge I have set in mind for the last three years. I am buying and learning to sail in San Francisco. I have about a week before the boat I chose is going to be on the water in my name. I have never been more excited and am anticipating meeting great people and learning a lot about sailing.

Thanks,
Paul

San Francisco is a great place to learn sailing. Some of the conditions you'll see there on a daily basis are light storm conditions down here in San Diego.

Thanks all,

Taking it out for a spin tomorrow if she sails nicely then painting the bottom and buying the boat on Monday. Be sailing in no time. Hopefully I can get a nice small crew or another hand to do some long trips early this summer.
Cheers,
Paul

Willards are pretty neat little boats. Not very fast though, but sturdy.

Enjoy the bay. It's an amazing place to sail and learn. If you want any formal lessons you should visit OCSC in Berkeley. It's one of the best sailing schools in the U.S.

see you out on the bay!

Re: Hello, New and Learning in San Francisco

There was a Willard here in South San Francisco that was sold and moved a few years ago. The last time I saw her she was named "Q". If by happenstance this is the same boat, I can put you in touch with the couple who owned her at that time. The guy is a real geek, and can tell you more than you want to know about the boat and its systems.

Re: Hello, New and Learning in San Francisco

Thanks everyone.
Today marks a new chapter in my nomadic lifestyle. Going to be learning on my boat for a month or so, then looking for a good couple of guys to crew and go somewhere. I'm up for anything and ready to start traveling the world. Mexico sounds like a good start.

Re: Hello, New and Learning in San Francisco

Yes I tend to dive in head first when I start something. Learn fast and do it to the max.

This is a fun challenge, I find myself thinking about it all the time.
