Hello From West Florida!

Hello! I'm a High School student from the Tampa area, beginning a restoration of the Morgan 34 Mexicana, which I plan to go cruising on for at least a few years after I graduate. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!

Welcome aboard, Mexicana.

What will your first project on the boat be?

Re: Hello From West Florida!

The first goal will be to make her sailable again, though I'll be working on other parts of the boat at the same time, say while I'm waiting for parts or something. To make her able to sail again she needs a new crossbeam between the two port bulkheads, I've taken that out (had to take apart the cabinet in the head to do it,) and I'm taking it to a local stainless fabricator to get a new one made. After rebuilding that assembly, I have to replace all the running rigging, install a vang, rebuild a number of winches, tighten the steering, scrape a year of growth off the bottom, make sure the swing keel works, patch the main, and tighten all the rigging.

Welcome to CF !

Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you... Don't be afraid to ask questions... That amount of work has plenty of sneaky paths to disappointment...

Re: Hello From West Florida!

Well done, Mexicana!

Already stuck into the first one, and more to come.

Cheers, and hoping it goes smoothly,

Ann
