Hello from Vancouver Island

I'm new to this forum but have been boating for 18 yrs. We've lived here since 2003 and a year ago we purchased a boat that our family can sleep on and gives us more range. The boating destinations in this area are incredible and I hope to retire here and see many of them more than once.

Yes, you have the luxury of not having to "long range cruise" anywhere! Unless of couse you want to soften t he butter.....

Yes. Windmill palms can grow here as well as Monkey Puzzle trees. The giant palms won't survive.
We moved here from parts that had colder winters (Ontario Canada) and we were thrilled to see these kind of plants. Therefore we had buy some just cause we can. Since there is a lack of very cold weather, we normally get a lot of rain over the fall, winter and spring. When we moved here it seemed like it rained every day from November till May. We moved into a brand new house in Sep 03 and by May 03, the new concrete patio and driveway was green with moss. Takes some getting used to.

I'm hoping once the kids are grown, my wife and I will be able go places every winter where the butter is soft. Hopefully my "personal retirement plan"....the lottery....will pay off.

I'm on the East coast near Courtenay, a bit North of mid Island.
I am hoping to take a trip to the San Juans. I just don't know when. We were out for 8 days last summer, which started to get long for the kids, but we only got as far South as Pirates Cove, after spending a few days at Chatterbox falls, then Marina hopping for a few days. My wife's schedule may not be easy to work with this year. We may only be able to do some 2 and 3 day trips.
So many places to see and so little time.

Welcome aboard from another primarily Vancouver Islander. I lived for a number of years up in your area. Commercial fished out of Campbell River for 10 years. A lot of nice cruising grounds North of Campbell River. I have my boat down in Victoria right now. Will be joining it on a more permanent basis in 2 months. You have a lot of options ahead. Have fun.
