Hi all
Kath and I (Stu) are new to this forum, but not to
boating. We're long term live-aboards on our lovely (well, working on it anyway...) old
motor sailer. A bit about the
boat..
Commisioned in late 1950 she was launched in 1951 from her builders slip on the River Thames, Her
builder being George Wilson. She is a Black Swan class
motor sailer, being No. 3 of 5 built. Built of mahogany on oak she is 30ft long with a 9ft 6inch beam. Draws about 3ft 3inches. She is powered by her original Coventry Godiva CDB 4 cylinder
diesel rated at 30 HP through a hydraulic
transmission. Runs perfectly and is very economical. Interestingly the first
boat in the class was exported to the Shah of Persia's
government, I think in 1948 or 1949.
Here is a pic of the old girl sailing in the British North Sea in 1972, and a more modern one taken last year. You may note the missing rails, which may get fitted later this year.
Anyway, nice to be here and looking forward to 'meeting' everyone.
