HELLO FROM THE STATES

I'm a middle aged guy, soon to be retiring and have been planning to purchase a sailboat now for a few years. Spent a lot of time researching and planning this, I think I will be ready in about a year to completely put my plan in action. Plan on selling the house and everything else, and living a board as well as seeing the world. I have limited sailing exp. I sailed some as a young man and owned power boats. But this coming summer I'm gonna join our local sailing club where you can get sailing lessons and use there available boats. I joined this forum hoping to meet some folks and get some advice to help me on my way. -Cheers!

Welcome aboard CF, shayski.

You'll find that the board answers specific questions quite well, and that as you yourself gain experience, your questions will get better, too. Your plan is good, it is a good way to start, and there is copious subject matter available here to study.

Have a wonderful time with it all, it is a big change, the beginning of the rest of your life!

Ann

Re: HELLO FROM THE STATES

Welcome shayski,
Many opportunities to break in sailing in the states, your location/club you are considering joining would be helpful as you may meet some locals here on cf happy to take on a crew member.
Also before you are ready to purchase the boat, you might consider buying a smaller boat gaining experience in both sailing and what you might like or dislike in a boat.
