Hello from the PNW

Hello all. I'm a new sailor who chose to try out the liveaboard life last year. I've been fixing up my boat and learning how to sail since then and am loving the life. The San Juans are a wonderful place to sail and it's been a blast exploring the Sound.

I hope to get more into racing shortly, and am working on making a sailing app in my free time for a design class, so that's keeping me engrossed with the world of sailing as well!

I'm glad to be part of the community here!

Re: Hello from the PNW

Howdy Andrew! Welcome Aboard CF!

I think it is great what you are doing. And, I wish I knew how to make/create/build an APP too! It is one of those things I hope to do in the future too. If you have any suggestions on how to get started with that, send me a PM.

I don't know how much time you have spent here on CF. There is SO MUCH information contained in the archived threads that one could spend years reading it and never read it all as more is added every day.

Since you are new to this forum, let me mention a few things you might miss but that could help you more enjoy your time here:

There are also some "social groups" within the forum that are more focused on special interests.

Here are a couple you might find interesting:

Pacific Coast Sailors Group (74 members)
Cruisers & Sailing Forums - Pacific Coast Sailors

Non Conservative Yachties (46 members)
This is not a political group. It is focused on discussions of new and innovative materials, hardware, and tools on boats.
Cruisers & Sailing Forums - non conservative yachties

And here are my two favorite tips for newcomers to CF:

WIKI
Take a look at the Cruising WIKI that is found via the tab up on the top menu bar of the forum. It has a LOT of information in it you might find fun, interesting, or helpful.

Looking for Quick Answers?

This is the best and fastest method I have found to the answers I seek here.
Since you are relatively new to the forum, here is my favorite friendly forum search tip: Look at the green menu bar on the forum pages for the drop down "Search" menu. Click on that to drop down a list of search functions. From that drop down menu select the GOOGLE CUSTOM search feature (the second box down) and then enter several different descriptive terms for your topic of interest. That will do a Custom google search of ONLY this site and it is likely to find answers to your questions or results for you. Note: this is different from using the regular forum search box or field. Also note, this is NOT found if you use the CF app. It IS found if you use a web browser such as Safari, etc.
