Have been boating off and on since the early 70s, lived aboard one of Ted Irwin’s designs in the 80s, never really cruised anywhere, however… mostly inshore fishing when in power boats living in the Carolinas in the 70s and Bay sailing up until nearly twenty years ago…
After over a decade and half hiatus from the water, my bride (a former Lake Havasu house-boater) and I stumbled upon a modest, rather run-down Bristol 24, but have been occupying ourselves getting set for a refurbishment, so we’re up to our ears in new chain, lines, blocks, sail twine, varnish... you know the drill… scrubbing, sewing, sanding, drilling, sawing… We moved her from the Annapolis area to the middle Potomac and since then have been doing a bit of day-sailing
Aloha Larry,
Welcome aboard!! Good to see a small boat do it yourselfer here. I had a Catalina 22 fin keeler that was a fun project and easy to sail and get underway. Very many good memories on that boat.
Kind Regards,
JohnL
I am at colonial beach also. It sure is a pain finding parts there. I try to bring everything I need, but always forget something. Hope to meet other boaters in the area. Always good to talk about refiting. Hope to catch with you'all sometime. If you are at the yacheting center I hear Robin is much better.
Yep, we’re there back on a quiet corner… but we only moved the boat there within the last three months… it had been left at an unattended moorage for several years and took us some months off and on to get ready to sail, but now that it’s home we’ve not yet used many of the center’s facilities… mostly we’ve been burning up eBay and stocking up stuff for the off-season refurbishing…
Just got a length of stainless steel PC anchor chain for about 15% retail – stuff is almost too gorgeous to put in the water… Rather than stowing it, I may just leave it on deck and admire it for awhile…
