Hello from the frozen North, AB

Hi all, and a friendly hello from the frozen north in Alberta, Canada. My boat, OurOasis, is the 26M MacGregor ( yeah I know it's not a real sailboat) but it will get me to and from the lakes. I've been reading CF for a year now, learned a lot and hoping to learn a lot more.

Thanks everyone.

I'm quite sure most Canadians down in the Caribbean are secretly wishing they were back up here

"Born and raised in Alberta" , isn't that the new slogan for Earl's ?

Any snow on your boat on the island?
I've got a slip at Wabamun Lake for this year, not big, but good enough for me to learn the ropes.

By this Sat. morning I will be in Fort Lauderdale for a week (should be a lot warmer than the Fort here where I live).

Welcome Ouroasis( both to the forum and to Wabamun) we live about 15 min from wab, and have had a slip there fo the last 2 years.
They are in the process of putting anchor points for the new docks right now. It should be a good season.
Look me up after launch. I have a San Juan 7.7 named Spanish dancer.

Calgary Ha! Southerners (just joking)
While our boat isn't at home right now it's still seeing lots of snow across from the island on the mainland and that's after it got shovelled.

Hello Chris, that's a nice SJ you have.
I only bought my M26 last June and had it 3 times on Buffalo Lake, it's OK to play around in but not very deep, had a hard time setting the anchor in the grass bottom near Pelican marina. It took me 6 hrs to get there. I didn't have a slip (they didn't have one available), had the boat at Heartland Marine, 15 km from the lake.
I work 7, 12 hr shifts, then 7 days off, so I'll have 4-5 days to sail Wabamun before heading back up here to work. Looking forward to not having to raise/ lower the mast every time I want to sail.
Hopefully I see you around there in May/June (assuming you're at Wabamun RV)

RBK, seems you need to keep a snow shovel on your boat this year

Re: Hello from the frozen North, AB

Used to keep a 26M in the backyard so keeping snow off the boat is nothing new. Just didn't think it'd have to be done this much down south considering we have almost lost all of our snow up here.

Re: Hello from the frozen North, AB

Welcome to the forum. My wife and I spend a few years sailing on Sylvan and Gull Lakes. Learned a lot about sailing on those lakes. I have fond memories of sailing our Hunter 260 on warm summer evenings.
We now live in Victoria and sail the Gulf Islands on a 32 ft. Beneteau. I've learned a lot over the years on this forum and others.
This is a great community. Most people here are very helpful and willing to provide guidance and advice. I find the forum particularly helpful when I have a technical question about my boat.

Re: Hello from the frozen North, AB

I just went to the marina to check on my boat. They have the existing docks ripped apart, fixing any rotten boards, building the new floating docks, and finished dredging it out.
I think it will be a little chaotic this spring but lots of upgrades happening. You picked a good time to join:-) Click image for larger version
