Hello from the Chesapeake

Hello all!!

I have been cruising around this forum for awhile, and have posted under a couple of other headings so I think it is time to formally introduce us.

I'm Becky and my more or less silent (as far as the internet goes) partner is Lance. We currently live in Maryland and are between sailboats.

We have been sailing and rebuilding old boats, occasionally living aboard, for the past 30 years. My husband is retired Navy and taught sailing for several years at the Naval Academy. We have owned a wide variety of sailboats (and a couple of stinkpots along the way too) which has given us a lot of opportunity to evaluate what we do and do not like and form our wants/needs list for our final cruising boat.

Our dream to retire someday and go cruising started about that long ago also. The plan has gotten derailed a couple of times for one reason or another. We had our (almost) ideal boat a couple of years back, and had lovingly restored and refit it to prepare for eventual cruising, but due to a misdiagnosed illness (mine) that we thought had put an end to sailing for me, we sold it. (I hate it when that happens.....)

Now we are only a few short years away from the magic date and in the planning/preparation stage again, including the search for a new boat. Knowing us, it will also need refurbishing and refitting. That's just the way we do things. So we need to get to it.

I'm always happy to chat about almost anything, but as most people who are seeing the dream on the horizon, I am most interested in articles and information from those who are out there and can give insight as to what the cruising climate really is now. I imagine the cruising world of the Hiscocks and Roths probably doesn't exist anymore.

It will be very nice to get to know all of you.

Re: Hello from the Chesapeake

Welcome to CF Becky (and Lance)! My wife is also married to a retired Navy guy.

We have 3 sailboats, but are currently between boats too. It is a process and seems to be taking forever, so I feel your pain.

Keith (and silent Rebecca)

Thanks Keith.

So are you between boats because you are looking for another one or because you can't decide which one of your 3 you want to play with today??

Two are in Florida and are small daysailers, one is here in KC and we take it from lake to lake, spending weekends on it, but we are looking for the cruising boat. Already have the homeport picked out, now just need the right boat to put in it. I am ready to go and do some serious cruising and charters and weekends just don't fill that need!

Re: Hello from the Chesapeake

Good luck with your search Khagan. We are looking at a potential next boat tomorrow. The search can be fun, but also stressful.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Thank you and your husband for your service. Wives have to put up with the military guys when they get home. Their job is hard too.
Good to have you here.
kind regards,

Re: Hello from the Chesapeake

Welcome aboard, Becky and Lance!

I have done most of my cruising in the Chesapeake over the years, and love all those great little gunk holes.

I also thank you for your service.
