Hello from the Baltic Coast of Germany
I am pleased becoming a member of this forum.
My name is Jens and I am living in a little village at the German Baltic coast. Although my time on sea is few years ago I am heavily engaged in marine business. I am working with the German Hydrographic Agency and teach ECDIS from time to time at the Maritime University here in Germany, Rostock/Warnemünde.
Why this forum? Well, my analytic tools tells me that forum members recommend and access my homepage from time to time and I thought it is worthwhile to be here if people have questions on ECDIS, electronic charting and so forth.
Uups, what I have forgotten, I am married for about 20 years with a wonderful wife and we have a daughter of 22 studying education sciences at Flensburg University. So I am happy.
I hope to enjoy the membership and looking forward to interesting discussions.
Jens

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Jens.
An ECDIS* instructor will be a welcome and worthy addition to our charting (& other) discussions.

Guys,
Thank you very much for the warm welcome notes. I appreciate each.
s/v Moondancer: I will keep your offer in mind The Baltic has so many nice places to visit, you will have no regrets about sailing here (preferable during the summer time)

Guten Abend Jens, welcome aboard.
It´s great fun here and you get addicted soon
I have a question right away that I hope you might be able to answer. Not about ECDIS though
Planning a trip the the Med next fall and not decided on wether or not to cross the Biscaye or do the inland waterways of Germany and France. From what I saw on some swedish website, from this year you would need a separate certificate for the VHF -issued by the "UBI" in order to go through the german canals and that the usual SRC woulnt be sufficient. Can you tell me if this is indeed the case, or if it´s just bad info?

Willkommen an bord Jens,
Unfortunately I just left the Baltic two weeks ago. Beautiful sailing the last 4 months between Flensburg to Rostock but now I'm off to the Canarys and then across the Atlantic.
Have fun, enjoy this great forum and I will probably be back next summer!!
