Hello from Texas

I am fairly new to sailing, and am on my second boat - a San Juan 23. Long range plans include extended cruising on a 30-something foot sailboat somewhere down the road.

For now we sail the San Juan on Galveston Bay, with some plans for some coastal cruising towards Mexico and/or New Orleans.

Looking forward to participating in the collective wisdom of the board.

Thanks,

Mike H.

Welcome Mike,
Watch those deserts at the Seabrook Classic Cafe. They are the true Sirens of Galveston Bay.

Welcome Mike! Do not sell the San Juan 23 short. A lot of fun can be had with not much expense. I still have my McGregor Venture 23 sitting beside my Allied Princess 36. I still have pleasant memories of cruises aboard the 23. This is a great place to read and learn.

I am at Watergate as well, on Pier 16. Were your cruises in the 23 mostly on Galveston Bay?

Mike,
Most of the cruises were on the Delaware Bay between the ports of Philadelphia and Sea Isle City NJ. In FL, cruises between St. Augustine and Daytona. I have run aground sooo many times my wife nicknamed me Captain runamuck. In the McGregor Venture Newport 23, I just had to crank up the swing keel and go. A lot of fun with the family. Now seatow is called to pull me off the shoals. I can not chance thin water with a 4.5' fixed keel on the Princess 36.

The San Juan 23 is a fast and fun cruiser and you will certainly have many great sails in her. We owned an SJ23 and sailed her for 20 years on Lake Ray Hubbard in Dallas. Even took a few trophies with her in the Dallas Race Week event. Welcome to the board.
