Hello from Texas

Hi there. My husband and I recently purchased our first boat. We plan on cruising with the 9 year old for a year or so leaving sometime in the fall of 2009 or early winter of 2010. Itenary is dependent on when we can leave- definitely hitting the Bahamas, would like to go deeper into the Carribean but if time/weather does not allow, we will be cruising the east coast of the US before moving back to Europe( I'm a native Texan, he's a native Scot).

Husband sailed dinghies in school and taught sailing to kids back in his University days. Later he went on to get his RYA skipper certifications, though he went ashore to work for 15 some off years so he is shaking off the rust by going through my ASA courses with me. I've been a passenger on boats of all sizes for years, just now making the jump to active sailor. Thus far, I love it.

We are currently doing quite a bit of repair and upgrading and as much day sailing as possible to get to know what the boat needs before hauling out sometime in August/Sept. to have her blistery bottom epoxyed and painted. So far, the list just seems to be growing with every task completed but we love our boat and think she is worth the extra effort.

So..hi there.

Welcome Mimsy,
I'm in kemah too, we have a small group of Texans on this forum. If you need anything be sure to PM I'd be glad to help out. There is a great "cruising with kids" section in this forum, be sure to check it out.
Cheers,
Erika
