Hello from South Carolina Sea Islands

Hello! I'm still a wannabe sailboat owner, here to learn before making my first purchase. I still have one child in high school for two more years, and then who knows...maybe a live-aboard adventure awaits. Until then, I have a view of the Atlantic out my back door. I see the shrimping boats out there daily, while most of the sailboats around here stay at their moorings most of the time. Maybe there's a reason for that, but it kills me thinking about all those boats wasting away in the sun. Anyway...looking forward to the day when I get out on the water and start learning the ropes.

Hi bitsalt, As a fellow South Carolinian (Lexington) let me give you a welcome. I know it's enough to drive you crazy thinking of all the adventures just waiting out there for you.
The happiest times of my life were messing around in and on boats. Just being on a boat sitting at the dock is way better than most other things you could waste your time doing.
Get you down to the docks and talk to enough people and you might be invited aboard.
Let it be known that you want to learn and crew for a day sail.
Never know what may happen till you give it a try.

Thanks, Diesel Bill! I'm hoping to hear lots of encouraging words like yours on these forums. It certainly helps combat the negativity that I often hear about boat ownership. I've lost count of the times I've heard that "two happiest days" line whenever I mention buying a boat. Give me a shout if you come down to the Beaufort area. I'd love to hear some of your stories.
