Hello from Solstice

We're currently in Fort Lauderdale, planning to start across the Atlantic later this week. Our home port is San Francisco, but we sailed under the Golden Gate two years ago and turned right leaving behind nothing but friends. Since then we've been as far north as Juneau, Alaska, and as far south as Panama. We spent two seasons in the Pacific Northwest -- one cruising the Inside Passage to Alaska and the second exploring beautiful British Columbia -- before heading south. Once we get to Europe, we plan to stay put in The Netherlands for a year in order to spend two seasons in the north before heading to the Mediterranean. After that, we'll go west again.

Oh, by the way, "we" is my husband, small dog, and I.

Solstice,
Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have much experience we can benefit from.
Did you have any problems clearing into Panama with your dog? We are plannining a trip down there this year with our 2 dogs.

Thanks, all, for the kudos on the website.

Panama Dave,
We haven't had any problem clearing into anywhere with our dog, except Grand Cayman where she was confined to the boat due to lack of a rabies titer test. We carry proof of rabies vaccination within one year and a certificate of health. That's all. At Isla Mujeres, Mexico, the department of agriculture came aboard to check things out and give us an official import certificate, but usually the officials didn't even ask about pets and didn't ask for paperwork when they saw the dog.

Ticks are a problem for dogs certainly in Panama and probably most places in Central America. If your dogs go for a run, be sure to check them carefully after, even if you're using flea and tick protection, which you should anyway.

BTW, Dave, we had an S2 9.2 center cockpit in San Francisco Bay. We really enjoyed that little boat. Your bigger S2 looks very nice too.
