Hello from Sheffield

Hi all,

Just bought our first sailing boat, an Achilles 840 which is currently moored in Abersoch, North Wales.
Had a couple of boats before, lived onboard a 23ft Norman Cruiser on the Thames in my late teens, and then on a friends boat in Petaluma, CA for a while. Now back in the UK all settled down and sensible with a family so I thought I should introduce them to the pleasure of sailing

Here is the lady in question

Re: Hello from Sheffield

Thanks for the warm welcome - it's a lovely boat, really pleased with her even though I've only been out half a dozen times
It's a lovely area to be based, but the water never seems to warm up enough to break out the swimming trunks!

Re: Hello from Sheffield

Bumping an old thread - spent the weekend on the boat with the little lad Toby, awesome fun!
Had cracking weather on Saturday, but the starter motor packed in - a local engineer came out and rebuilt it on-board and we were good to go on Sunday morning.
Sailed down from Abersoch to Porthmadog, stopped for an afternoon snooze anchored off Criccieth Castle in the afternoon and spent the night in Porthmadog harbour.
Amazing waves coming back on Monday, breaking over the bow - Toby took an accidental swim later on in the day when he was messing around on the dinghy claiming he doesn't need help to climb onto the boat

Re: Hello from Sheffield

Good to see you out in the boat.
Brings back a few memories, kept a boat in Porthmadog for a few years, can be a bit bouncy over the bar

Eeh by gum Lad!

I grew up just up the M1 from you, Leeds, but now sail the Caribbean and US full time.

However, my daughter lives in York and is doing Coastal Skipper next month.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Phil

Re: Hello from Sheffield

Welcome aboard Nice looking boat. Excellent sailing area although you have a bit of a journey each time you visit. Then again there is no sea near Sheffield. Did you check the wee lad's "family jewels" a dip in that water can retard puberty for a few years!

Regards

Alan

Re: Hello from Sheffield

Welcome Rick, Abersoch...... Happy memories,I and some friends bought a boat there in '75, yacht club was too 'snooty' so we drank at the Power boat club. Never sailed out of sight of land till the day we left, next stop was Tangiers, Morocco ! Oh what fun to be young and invincible !! PS ended up in USA and still there . Bruce.
