Hello from San Francisco Bay

We've been conducting research, aka, lurking for a few months now while searching for our next sailboat. Thanks to everyone who replies so that we are better equipped and informed when making decisions. We are currently progressing through the purchase process and looking forward to getting our new to us sailboat out on the bay.

Great boats!

Not an ideal day sailer in the bay, but still pretty decent for that. Pretty great for going offshore, also lots of room if you're a live aboard. Im assuming since you bought this boat you have designs on cruising, and it will be awesome for that.

Re: Hello from San Francisco Bay

Welcome aboard CF, TopandKeri.

I got my start sailing in SF Bay and the little patch of ocean from Monterey to Pt. Reyes. The winter before we left, we went out when there were gale warnings forecast (with rain), and practiced using the storm jib, heaving to, and getting used to rowdy conditions where we could come home and have a hot shower afterwards. May you enjoy all the good sailing it has to offer.

Ann

The San Francisco estuary has lots of waters (bays, rivers, sunken islands) where one can spend weeks exploring.

Definitely. And the Morgan is slightly more shoal draft than most boats her size, so should be able to access quite a bit of those nooks and crannies on a high tide.

I'm a bit jealous!

Re: Hello from San Francisco Bay

Thanks all. I retire from the Marines in a year and a half. My wife just retired from horse training. We have started the process of selling and purging our things. We hope to enjoy cruising the local waters until we are both retired and ready for an indefinite time on the water. We've both worked hard and are ready to visit the sunrises and sunsets that many of you have posted pictures of. The boat we are purchasing is appropriately named Fernweh . We have no intention of renaming her.
