Hello from Rahpsody,27'Norsea

We are going on a cruise vacation in the sound around the San Juan Isl. We are making this our shake down before we go take a long journey. One concern is, food. What works for long journeys? What last the longest and how do we keep fruit from rotting. We will be out from any ports for approx 2 weeks at a time.

Hello, to you, too! Welcome aboard! I see you've already jumped into the forums--hope you enjoy yourself here.

If you have a freezer on board, a vacuum sealer is a wonderful addition. Even without a freezer, you can vac seal dinners, freeze them before you leave and put them in the icebox. Being sealed, they will keep for quite a while, even after the ice melts. You can have some nice dinners before breaking out the canned goods.

Cabbage, potatoes, onions and carrots keep pretty well without refrigeration. Don't let a potato go bad on you, though. Smelly! Check them every day.

Aloha __ Nurse,
Welcome aboard! Good to have you here and asking good questions. Oreo cookies, peanut butter, tortillas dill pickles and cheese. Lots of trail mix. That's from my bachelor boating days and of course I'm just kidding. You'll get lots of good advice here I hope.
Kind regards,
JohnL
