Hello from Puget Sound

I've been a long time guest here. You all seem like a friendly group so I decided it's time to ante up and join.

Don't know how much I can contribute, but I do hope to learn, so thanks in advance.

Nice boat!
Second pic was taken looking SE in Port Townsend Bay.
That tower to the right is in the water at the North end of Marrowstone Island.
Whidbey is off to the left side. My avatar pic is looking the opposite direction at that very spot.

I love Port Hadlock. We have anchored there several times. Good protection and a sweet community. Hope to get there this coming season again. I am currently moored in Oak Harbor.

Smile More Atkins

Hi guys,

I am just down the road in PL. Idora was in Hadlock for years and there are many fine people on the dock there. Can you fit under the bridge?

Todd, no problem on the bridge height. We're about 52' off the water. I worry more about the depth and the current. Went thru once against a strong ebb. Bad planning on my part. Our little Yanmar was working very hard.

Welcome to the forum Mel.
Used to sail in Florida (where you never worried which way the tide was going) then moved to Bellingham. Sailed once against the tide. Passed the same buoy three times. Had to motor to make progress. Never again.
Now the first thing I do is consult the tide tables. Then look as the wind forecast for the ideal time in tide currents, finally I look at what is convenient for the crew. My passages are a whole lot faster, even if we do leave a 0400.
