Hello from Perth Australia

Hi all,

Long time lurker and avid reader of posts during the last few years... Finally joined today as we have made the decision to buy a yacht and go cruising!

Advice, opinions and assistance all gratefully accepted.... I realise I don’t know much in comparison to the collective “hive mind” of this forum...

Currently looking at a Savage Oceanic 46, and a Radford.....

Hope to see you out there,

Brad and Donna

Hi Brad and Donna...welcome to the forum. There is a lot of knowledge on this forum but ultimately everyone has an opinion on what boats are good for cruising. In the end, you take all that great information and make your best guess.

See you around.

TaP that Savage looks alright, rigging is a bit old and no mention of the age of the sails? Radford is a good Australian yacht designer.
Cheers

Gday I’m guessing the kimberleys is at the top of your to do list, if so have you considered a catamaran, can beach (dry out) shallow draft, a huge advantage in big tide country

Re: Hello from Perth Australia

Thanks Bunji...
Certainly have been looking at a Cat - but really - just out of our budget. Had a serious look at the monocat recently up for sale in Brisbane - but decided against it for a number of reasons. Mostly because having a bigger boat means more on maintenance and less in the cruising kitty....

With just two of us aboard for the most part - a cat seems a large outlay in upfront cost and ongoing maintenance for the benefit of getting in close. I am a mad keen fisherman and love the idea of shallow anchorages... even looked a a southerly , but again - the maintenance costs are large. There is an Ovni in New zealand that we have also been looking at... but at the moment - we are focusing on the Oceanis and Radfords.....
