Hello from Oregon

Hi all,

My goal is to sail from Oregon, down the coastline, to as far south as Ecuador. I finish my undergraduate soils program at Oregon State University in early December 2011 and plan to leave shortly thereafter. Do folks think it's possible to hop aboard as a beginner? ...and will there be a steady flow of boats cruising south along the coast that time of year?

i look forward to connecting!

Welcome Aboard CF Meghan and enjoy
Sorry, can't help you on that coast, but should be plenty of traffic...

Re: Hello from Oregon

Megan,

That may be a bad time of the year to head south from Orgeon as all that nasty rain and wind in PNW starts to show up about then. Check with some of the local cruisers and get their help in planning a voyager of that distance. Good luck on your travels.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
You've asked a great question and I'm certainly not the best one to answer it but I believe most folks head south in May or summer.
kind regards,

Re: Hello from Oregon

Welcome aboard the CF. I mostly sail out of Coos Bay, but this year will be leaving from the Columbia River bar. For a newbee I won't leave until late July or the first part of August. A lot depends on your experence. Don't go down to Mexico- south until after October. Wait for hurricane season to pass. If I can help more, just give a shout. What type of boat do you have?.....Michael....
