Hello from NZ.
Hello everyone.
I am pulling the trigger on a 32 ft keeler this week, waiting for financial approval, already pre- approved... Hoping to live and love on it while tidying/updating the interior, doing my dive masters, and generally cruising the coast in my spare time.
I spent 4 years training/working on a tall ship back in Canada, and at least a dozen sailing lazers. Mrs.Iambatman is onboard, as is our fox terrier, and I look forward to spending some time cruising these forums!

Thanks! I don't see to much information on cruising New Zealand... Anyone have any suggested reading? Was also planning on getting a combo GPS/fish finder/depth sounder, there's a Garmin going for around 600 new, and that way I would have all the charts electronically. Pick up charts as I sail and get used to these warmer climates (Lake Ontario, St Lawrence river is where I first spent time on a gorgeous military brigantine, training sea cadets and thelike. COLD. ROUGH.) Where there seem to be safe bays and harbours all along the coast, and up north seems like summer year round.... Haha. I am sure some of that optimism will get blown out of me.

Re: Hello from NZ.
Welcome. We have quite a few NZ folks here. Wangari is a hub for many cruisers. My parents stopped there on their way around the world and did not want to leave :-) New Zealand was their favorite country.
Cheers,
Erika

Re: Hello from NZ.
Kia Ora welcome to CF. Are you going give us a hint about where you are in NZ? It may be small but it's not that small

The boat is up near Auckland but my batcave is down in the Manawatu for now... Till the missus finishes school. Then we'll be moving coastal, and move the boat if needed.
Anyone familiar with Northcote Point?

Re: Hello from NZ.
Yeah, welcome Iambatman and Mrs Iambatman, Northcote point under the bridge, lots of info for the howcrappy gulf northwards, the Royal Akarana cruising guide is a good starter, there are others. GPS info is good but a paper chart backup isn't a silly idea especially when planning trips. Lots of folks are going the Ipad way you can overlay google maps etc.
Ocean girl, I like your phonetic spelling, sounds right, but it really is Whangarei. KiaOra.

Re: Hello from NZ.
+1 for Royal Akarana Cruising Guide. Spot X also has a good publication. Both available at most chandleries.
