Hello from NW Minnesota

Good day. Never posted on a forum before, oddly daunting. Finished 27' gaff yawl this winter. Gonna get on one of our larger lakes this summer and learn how to sail her. I have only sailed a melon seed skiff for experience. Any advice would be welcome.

How nice of you to want to see her. I'll have to get someone to show me how to get the picture to move here.

Re: Hello from nw minnesota

Take her to Lake of the Woods or Rainy Lake. Stunning sailing on both. If possible take her to Lake Superior.

The weather changes really, really fast and a lee shore is always close so be ready to take down the sails quickly. Remember water is very cold so you are probably dead if you fall off your boat.

Research the rules for crossing the Kanukian border. You can get a special allowance from Kanukian and US authorities to go between the two countries easily.

Re: Hello from nw minnesota

Yes indeed to rainy, our family's passion is canoes we have spent many days up in canoe country. Our main goal is to have her on south Shore of superior, (apostle islands), when we can do so safely. You have sailed rainy lake, where would you moor her?

Re: Hello from nw minnesota

I would try to find someone with a mainland lake home and an unused dock. Rainier is probably ideal

Seabird, what a beautiful boat. I'm certain you will get as much pleasure from sailing her as you did building her.
