Hello from New Zealand
Hi all,
Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Shannon. Just about to purchase my first yacht, so get ready to be inundated with silly questions.
I've spent a lot of time on the water here, sailing with friends and family and the weekly twilight races, but this will be my first live aboard . Any advice will be welcomed with gratitude. Roverhi mentioned in a previous thread us Kiwis are a little crazy, but a determined bunch and I am no different..
I'm determined to make this work and make it happen, come hell or high water.
Thanks for the platform to learn from
Shannon

Hi Shannon, where are you looking at being? Will you be marina or mooring based or are you going to cruise?

Re: Hello from New Zealand
Hi there,
On the mooring at this stage, until I learn more about the engine and how the vessel holds in weather etc. I'ts just me on my own, so I want to be sure I know what I'm doing and can read her before we venture to far.

A nice part of the world. Have you found something or you looking? Any particular yacht? What are plans, stay local or international?

Re: Hello from New Zealand
hi there
I have my heart set on a Chico 30, Gary Mull design. Its just me on my own (a slightly rounded, pushing 40, wine guzzling mom of two) so I need to be able to handle her solo, I think shes the right fit. I will stay local for a while, learn about the engine, a BUKH 20, perhaps even replace it depending. I grew up on the water with an avid sailor , dad, so I know the sounds well, just a matter of learning the vessel and how she holds herself.

Re: Hello from New Zealand
Chico 30's are good, the Lotus 9.2 is not bad either for that size.

Re: Hello from New Zealand
Totally agree, there's a fine line between the two when it comes to preference for me.

Re: Hello from New Zealand
The Lotus is a sweet yacht. The Bukh DV20 is a good motor if it’s been well maintained. I had a DV10 that was under water for three days and it ran for years after it was stripped and reassembled.
Welcome aboard.

Hi, welcome from a Sydneysider, although my dad was a Kiwi.
This site definitely can do with a Shady Lady.
