Hello from Minnesota!
Hello Cruisers-
New guy here from Minnesota working on fixing up a fractional rig trailer sailor and a currently sailing a home-built sailing dinghy.
I came for the OpenCPN forum and found myself reading more and more of the other postings.
I have been to a couple of the regional 'messabouts' and am thinking about getting more hooked in with the sailing community in general.
Thanks for having me!

Re: Hello from Minnesota!
Hi Spot. I keep my boat in a slip on Lake Pepin, and have canoed the Cannon River from Faribault to Cannon Falls, and except for a few miles, from Meisville to the Mississippi. I have also scouted the Little Cannon River upstream from Cannon Falls to its headwaters near Nerstrand for possible future canoe trips (only the Sogn Valley to Cannon Falls reach looks navigable though).
What kind of sailing dinghy have you built?
Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to meet up some time.

Hello SEC906-
I have biked the trail, last time was a few years ago. I have driven sag wagon for a couple local bike events too.

Puddle Duck Racer, complete with the polytarp leg-o-mutton spritsail.
The Lake Pepin Messabout is May 31 through June 2 2019.
It would be great to meet up with folks from 'around here'.

Re: Hello from Minnesota!
Hi Spot, Just saw your post this morning. Welcome to the forum. Small boats are lots of fun. I started out in the early 1960s with an 8 foot dingy. My current boat seems to take a long time to secure every thing to go for a day sail. Watching the weather today makes me glad I'm not up north right now. Keep warm.

Re: Hello from Minnesota!
Thanks Guys!
-27 F (-33 C) air [-50 windchill warning] here this morning. Stay warm has replaced goodbye as the standard closing greeting in conversation. And by the weekend we are looking at above freezing.

In the current issue of "Sailing" magazine, there's an article about iceboat sailing.

Hello from Minnesota!
Spot, welcome to the forum. We lived in St. Paul, MN for ten years in the 70s-80s. You never forget -30 f and wind chills of -90 f. I had a 16’ trailer sailer then that I enjoyed on the downtown lakes, Pepin, White Bear, Minnetonka and farther afield. And I kept a Bic sailboard on the roof of my car just in case I ever found any water that wasn’t frozen solid. Now, I’m happy to say I have a bigger boat that lives in Long Beach, CA where the ice only comes out of the refrigerator door.
