Hello from Miami, FL

Anyone on the board living in or around Dinner Key Marina?

I'm new to this game and thinking of bringing a boat down here to live aboard. Of course I have lots of questions, the first of which, how difficult is it to get a slip for a 48' sailboat at Dinner Key Marina or in Miami in general?

Secomd, does anyone have any advice or experience to share about sailing from Destin, FL to Miami? I've made thr trip before via power boat with lots of stops, wondering how long I will need to plan to do it under sail.

Thanks,

Wes

Hi WetDawg and welcome to the cruisers forum. Lot's of Florida sailors on the board.

Not all of them visit meets and greets regularly. If you don't get too many responses try reposting the question in the destinations forum under Atlantic and Carribean section.

Aloha Wes,
Welcome aboard! 48 is a huge boat but would make a good liveaboard.
Kind regards,

Draft and bridge clearance will have a big impact on how you get to Miami. If you know the numbers look at a chart. Unless you want to stop in Key West you may be able to come straight to Marathon to get on the other side of the Keys. Others may not agree but I don't think sailing would be a good option east of MTH unless you were out in Hawk Channel or outside the reef. If you stay North and headed for the bridge at Tavernier I believe you would be motoring most of the way.
