Hello from Maine

Hi All,

My name is Rob.I am a former lobster fisherman from Maine (1982 - 1999) but now I live in an RV, work from home as a software engineer, and travel the country with my wife and youngest son. This is our third summer in Maine since starting the RV life but we winter between Texas and Florida.

Last week we bought a 1980 Pearson 26 sailing sloop. She is in beautiful condition (for a 38 year old boat) but has been on the hard for 3 years so needs a little TLC - mostly cosmetic. I have never sailed but having grown up on the water in a fishing family and spent most of my early career as a lobsterman I have no doubt I will learn fast. My nephew raced J-24s as a crew member when he was younger and will "show me the ropes" lol.

Looking forward to cruising Casco Bay and the Maine coast this summer! Maybe in a few years (work and time allowing) I would love to cruise from Maine to Florida down the ICW so we can spend the winter cruising the Caribbean :-)

Re: Hello from Maine

Hi Rob.

Welcome to sailing, and that's a great boat to start with! Depending on where you'll be located, you may want to look into SailMaine's schedule of courses. You'll learn quite a bit in a hurry. I found it's always best to get a number of perspectives on how to approach sailing and deal with the inevitable situations that arise.

Re: Hello from Maine

Forgot to mention I am also a scuba diver and part of my motivation for buying the boat is so that I can get access to more/better dive sites :-)
