Hello from Las Vegas

I tiptoed into the sailing world by taking the Nevada yacht club 2 day course in 2015. Started sailing a club owned j24 learning from a hardcore race skipper. Amusingly a new commodore who didn't know me asked me to take out students for instruction a few months later, which went fine. Stayed on the j24, sailing all over lake Mead and not racing for a couple years. Recently did a lot of time on a Santana 20 with a fellow sailing class grad.

This week I indulged my midlife crisis and bought a sailboat. Cricket is a 1969 Cal 2-24. Seems like a heavy boat, possibly because it's constructed largely of lead and solid bronze. The keel weighs more than my friend's Santana 20. Good sailing boat, next is an online shopping binge on Minnie's for other people's castoffs.

Have been reading lots of good stuff on this forum, including the entire 500 and 3000 dollars a month threads.

Will see if I can stand the low headroom on the Cal. The price was right and condition solid as an always freshwater desert boat. It doesn't accelerate in light air like the j and Santana, but should hold up better in a blow.
