Hello from Lake Erie

Greetings from west Lake Erie. Planning to sail all the Great Lakes. Will be posting on the Great Lakes forum asking for some fun stop-overs. Possibly Lake St Clair is our first stop. Look forward to posting our summer sailing adventures!

Oh boy, do I have memories of Lake St. Clair: almost getting run down by a freighter at night in fog. I recommend you avoid that.

But +1 for making the Great Lakes forum a bit more active, hope to help with that as well.

Welcome.

Re: Hello from Lake Erie

Greetings and welcome to the Great Lakes forum.
Last year I relocated Sail the Wind to Erie PA after spending several years in Florida. So I am also discovering sailing the Great Lakes. Last year we sailed mostly day sailing near Erie. Once we launch this spring the plan is to explore the entire Lake Erie including the North shore.
Keep posting your discoveries and I will do the same.
Take care

Re: Hello from Lake Erie

Hi Sofia, welcome, this is my first post so thought I would share. I keep my boat @Ease at Meinke Marina and have sailed all over the west side of Erie. As for St Clair, Miller Marina is nice cheap place and I have a 5'3" draft and had no issues. It's kind of run down but in a pinch worked great, we hugged the coast coming down so no freighter issues from us. Just give them room. As far as going down the Detroit, that was fun. Cool to see Canada and Detroit. There was some rock concert so we got free entertainment as we passed Dertoit last year. One thing is you can come and go across the border as long as you don't stop. Once you stop then if in Canada need to check in. Have fun and if you see @Ease floating around, give a shout out.
