Hello from France

Just to say hello and we have a mooring booked at the new Sant Carles Marina at the mouth of the Rio Ebro on the med coast of Spain.

Been stuck on the hard in France as no moorings available.

Looking forward to being a yachtie again after a 25 year break.

Welcome

Hi James. Welcome to this most interesting forum, which I have also only recently joined. It is a most fascinating place and there is much to learn.

Sailing is like riding a bicycle - you never forget.

Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Welcome James,
Your English seems very English. Are you French? Or just in France? Either way, welcome.
JOHN

Thumbs up

Hello to you all and thankyou for the great welcome, I feel at home here already and am very glad I joined. I recently started on the YBW forum, which is full of chattering idiots who swamp the real boaters there and I was losing my interest in yacht forums fast.

Yes I am English but live in Southern France. We did a lot of med cruising in the 70s with various boats and were based at Malta, Andraitx, Grimaud, Isle des Embiez, Ibiza and finally the Club de Mar in Palma where we sold the last boat. We had at least one year mooring in each of those and never paid more than £300.

We finally got to give it another go in 2003 and had a new Oceanis 311 delivered to Ginesta south of Barcelona. Stuck there for 4 days until the boat was ready and the discos were going until 7.30 am. Not a good start and we realised that it was going to be different.

The big problem was that we didn't realise how difficult finding a mooring would be, so we have been in a Port à Sec and hardly used the boat. At last we have a place booked in Spain so we are getting keen again.

Welcome James! didn't realise a space was so difficult in the Med- been chartering there for nine years but I guess a visitor berth for one night is always easy. Great company and info here, and maybe bump into you sometime! (back in the med next June) fair winds and welcome again!!
