Hello from Cape Town

Hello all, from sunny Cape Town!

I got to this forum by following some links to posts about sailing cat ketches.
I'm the owner of a Pelican 42, in fact the original one from which a mould was taken for subsequent production.
Domicella was cold-moulded in Richards Bay in the 1980's, and I'm here third owner.

I bought her, very well-priced, out of a deceased estate a year ago, confined to moorings and without a Certificate of Fitness.

She has minor issues requiring attention - leaking stanchion bases ( it looks like they have been moved a few times ), port aft mooring cleat ripped out of the deck ( teeny, scrawny little backing plate ), diesel tank poorly mounted, a drip from the stern gland, stanchions not securely fitted into bases, leaks through the deck where her mizzen mast passes through the deck, pushpit and pulpit removed, anchor windlass installation incomplete ( and substandard), countertops warped and cracked, holed dinghy, anodes wanting replacement......thats not an exhaustive list but it gives the idea......nothing major but lots of little things to do....

For outright socio-economic reasons there is no power in the marina where she lies, so the plan over the next m9nth or so is to bring her around the corner to Royal Cape Yacht Club and get her brought up to standard, and then get to sailing her, and in a few years, cruising with her.

So, that’s my story and here we are; Her Loveliness, Domicella and me.

Wallace...

Welcome to CF !!!

Sounds like you got bit by the bug... AND...

Have quite a bit of work ahead of you !!!

Don't get too discouraged, but there's like;y to be a bit more than you can see with this level of neglect...

I would venture to say that almost every refit question you have has already been thoroughly discussed... Use the search functions here to research... When you do post questions... (and we certainly hope you do) Try not to add too many different topics to a thread... keep things related...

PS: A few pics of your new girl would be fun!
