Re: Hello from Brazil!

Thank you for yr message... I couldnt agree more with you... There is one upside...
Here we still find unspoiled locations, hardly any boats, no marinas etc etc... so it still has, in some spots, this exploring feel to it...

Take care and all the best

Re: Cruising in Brazil

Thank you downunder...
Yes, indeed, there is word that more powerboats will be built in Brazil....
Despite its huge gap between the have's and the have nots, there is no problem in spending money on powerboats (sailboats is already another status...

As to Caipirinhas... that is the basic beverage on board (not for the captain when navigatin ofcourse..)

Take care
Best rgds

Brazil:

More stars on national flag
Greatest Formula 1 drivers. Senna (rest in peace), Massa, Fittipaldi, Zonta, et al.
Caipirinha - spent many mornings trying to remember last night because of that rocket fuel .
A Family member and lovely "girl from Ipanema" wife have estate on the beach at Ubatuba. Will be there in the spring .

Welcome aboard the CF

Re: Hello from Brazil !

Hi,

I'm from Brazil and must confess that I don't know much about the brazilian marine market. Anyway, the last time I've read/heard about it, we have more than 100 manufacturers that sold > 5.500 boats last year.
Of course isn't comparable to any mature market but is far from the 4 cited here.
The brazilian market is expanding so fast that most of the major yacht makers are selling (or about to) here. They say 10~15%/year.

I believe that a more massive market would bring more efficiency and competition and may reduce the costs and prices. With our interest rates and import duties, boats and parts are really expensives here.

:-(

Sorry my ugabuga english. I'm tired...

Hi Walter,

A lot of information here...:
* To buy a boat in Brazil may not be the cheapest way.. pls concider this
* The nautical industry in Brazil (ie skipper etc) is still in a very infant stage, so to find a job to work on a (sail) boat, and i dont want to burst your bubble, wont be easy.. (you will have to speak portuguese for that matter..)
* You could check the main marina in Floripa Iate Clube Veleiros da Ilha
* You could try to connect with Hans at Nexussurf (Florianopolis Surf Vacation | Florianopolis, Brazil) maybe he can help you..

All the best,
Pieter

Re: Hello from Brazil !

Pieter,

I used to work in Brazil for 4 years, off shore for Noble Drilling contracted to Petrobras. Fly into Sao Paulo, then the 20 minute flight to Rio and a 3 hour bus ride to Macae before boarding a helicopter for the hour flight to the rig. Sure enjoyed the people of Brazil.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for yr message... Despite a lot of bad stuff (corruption and lack of a basic stuff) it is a great place to be... And as they say here: once you drink the water of Brazil (ie Caipirinha..??) you will return...

Take care and all the best

Re: Hello from Brazil !

Like I sometimes did when working in the North Sea, instead of returning to the States for my time off, I'd just cash out my airline ticket and travel. Got as far north as Aracaju.

Hey Pieter,

So you finally outed yourself on the forum!!

How is the chartering going? And when are you looking to be near trindad, let me know as Jackie and and the kids would love to hook up again.

I second what Pieter has said. We kept our boat pretty much right next to him for almost two years. Brazil, and specifically Bahia de Ilha Grande, is amazing to sail in but like the west coast of the us compared to the east coast of the us there are relatively few spots.

I found the brazilians, and the many many Argentinian sailors there as well to be very helpful, supportive and fun.
