Hello from Braveheart in Puerto Aventuras

Ahoy! Greetings all, my name is James and I’m proud to be posting here from aboard the Braveheart, my new home and source of constant activity. She’s a 1982 Morgan OI 416, in wonderful shape and my first vessel of any kind. I’m currently in the marina in Puerto Aventuras and learning the ins and outs, have no real prior sailing experience so this is all a wonderful adventure for me at the moment. It’s just me on board so I’m sure I’ll post some questions here and there, happy to be introduced and looking forward to hitting the seas at some point soon

Welcome Aboard CF. Lovely name for your boat.

Fair winds, mate, from Tasmania.

The entrance to that marina can be scary, especially with winds from the SE. I know of at least one boat that was lost there. The second entrance is much easier but does not connect to the main marina. The trick is to maintain enough speed (which you need to steer the boat!)

I know of one boat that met it’s demise there. I can remember the names of the people but not the boat.

Almost watched a boat that was following us meet the same fate there.

The key to aventuras is to be patient and use power. Lots of it.

When you’re leaving, just power through until you’re in deep water.

Coming in, just sit in deep water and feel the swell. Time the sets, then pick your line and go like hell into the channel.

Hello and thank you for the greeting and input! I am actually at rest in the secondary marina that is mentioned, it has a more protected entrance but still the going can get a bit wild for sure. I’m quite happy in this little corner with upcoming storms, lots of protection compared to the other, “main” marina.

I’m quite new to all this so please, any and all input is appreciated and I am never one to assume information. Looking forward to communicating with you all! I have lots of experience with electronics, electric, audio and visual etc, in many applications. If ever an exchange of useful information is possible I am always up for it thanks again to all, happy to be here!
