Hello everyone, I'm happy to find this "CruisersForum". I'm new so please excuse me.

Hi, I am new to this forum. I started sailing as a child and earned my Captains license from the U.S.C.G. Auxiliary when I was 14 so I could sail alone in the Long Island sound. Now I am retired and want to go back to my love of sailing. Any advice for a man that wants to buy and live on a sailboat on the south shore of Long Island, NY. I plan on moving onto and getting her into ship shape before heading south threw the intercoastal waterway to Florida and further on to the Caribbean Islands. From now on I am looking to make friends and learning how to sail again. I am 6'3" and 260lbs so I want room to move around down below deck. Any and all help is very much appreciated and I will try not to make an ass of myself. Thank you.

Welcome! Hopefully you’ll be able to find some relevant and useful information.

For my understanding, do you mean living on the southern shore of Long Island Sound (Manhasset, Hempstead, Oyster, Huntington, Port Jeff etc), or the actual southern shore of Long Island (Rockaway, Jamaica, Jones, Fire etc)?
