Lightbulb Hello - Dual Citizen Med Sailor

New to forum and newish to sailing.

RYA Day Skipper and ICC licensed in 2021 living in Dublin, Ireland as American expatriate – will be relocating to America (Raleigh-Durham) in 2023.

Dual citizen German and USA passports with plans to sail the Med without visa restriction in US flagged vessel optimizing temporary import rule (leaving EU waters every 18-months to avoid VAT).

Anyone else already managing temp import rules as a dual citizen?

If you buy the boat in the EU VAT paid and keep her there in the Med you have no need for the 18 mth deal regardless of flag..
Buy it outside the EU then you do.. lots of folks using the 18 mth rule.

Re: Hello - Dual Citizen Med Sailor

Welcome.

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.

Re: Hello - Dual Citizen Med Sailor

EU residents need to pay Vat within one month of arrival of non-vat paid yatch. UK citizens resident in Greece have been caught by this.

So if you can show USA residency then can use 18 month temporary import. Irish resident would need to pay Vat.

Above is my understanding .
