Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, I am already recieving good info(at least I think its good) from a couple of you and furthering my research. I have to wonder is it better to just go or study?

My plan so far is to get a Helmsman license, while doing this sail my current boat. The next question is how long should I spend sailing my starter boat before I get the boat I plan on cruising with?
