Thanks CF! With all of your help, the wife and I are about to become cruisers (knock on wood). We are currently in Portsmouth RI and are setting sail for Portland ME tomorrow morning. So, here is our introduction.

I just graduated from the 25th grade and the wife has had enough as a 4th grade teacher, so, we bought a Westerly Sealord and have been living aboard for the past 6 weeks in Portsmouth. We think we are ready to move on to the next port and continue outfitting her for a two year cruise through the Caribbean and maybe beyond. We don't have the newest or fanciest bucket out there, but I think we are going to be just fine!

Hey Cruisers! Just thought I would send out an update.

We (the wife and I) sailed from Portsmouth RI up to Portland ME and spent a really nice couple of weeks in Casco Bay before heading south to Wildwood NJ (hand steering the entire way which after installing an autopilot I realized really sucks!). We went through Cape Cod Canal both ways and trolled the entire New England coast and succeeded at catching only a sunflower. From Jersey we motored almost the entire way to Ft. Lauderdale where we are awaiting a few final spares and then we are off to the Bahamas on the first weather window. BTW the ICW is nice but I would really try to avoid it in the future (motoring all day watching day markers, magenta line, and depth sounder made me want to poke my own eyeballs out)!

Well done! You are on your way now, and the ice should soon melt around your keel.

There's another Westerly Sealord represented on CF: chappie named "El Pinguino" who is currently on his boat in Chile, about to head for Peru, etc. Knowledgeable fellow, and possibly a source of info for you. Good bloke as well, FWIW!

The more I read about the Westerly Sealord the more intrigued I become. I strongly suspect that had I met one before I met the Swanson I would have been hooked. Sadly they don't seem to have made it to Oz.

May it give you many happy miles as I suspect it will.

Despite your warnings, however, I would love to travel the ICW, but perhaps in a big 'ol motor boat, maybe the US equivalent of the Australian Halvorsen Cruiser. After "doing" the UK canals I am hooked on the idea of these sorts of meandering journeys.
