Hello, and a request for some help

I am a 17 year old student. I currently live in Canada, however, in September 2009 I will be moving to either Ireland or Scotland to attend university. I grew up in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. As such I was exposed to sailors and those involved in a nautical lifestyle. I developed an interest in working at sea from an early age. I will graduate from my current college in May of 2009 and will have a four month long summer vacation. When I noticed the length of my vacation I realised that it would be the perfect opportunity to finally work on a ship. I have no sailing experience, but some experience in the hospitality industry. I was wondering if anyone out there knew of someone who could hire me, or could give me advice as to go about getting hired. I would prefer to sail either in the Med, the Baltic or the St. Laurence and eastern seaboard of Canada. Thanks.

When you get to your Uni in Scotland, they all usually will have a sailing club. sign up and learn to sail... small boats first and work your way up.

Welcome to the Forum, aye-landor.

The Grenadines have some of the best sailing grounds in the Caribbean, and they're great boat-builders down there, also. Here's some reading material for you that might contain some helpful information.

Aloha Aye,
Welcome aboard! Go down to a cruise or merchant ship and talk to some of the employees. You'll find a lot of information that folks here won't be able to give you because most have not worked aboard cruising ships. For example: I have over 45 years of sea experience with no work time aboard a cruise or merchant ship.
Kind regards,
JohnL
