Hello all

Hi there. I guess this is where I say hello and talk about myself so...

I'm joining up because I'm going to have lots of questions over the next few years. I used to be an avid sailor, living (camping?) aboard a Cal 25 for three years and sailing the Channel Islands and the southern coast of California and Northern Mexico. Before that (and after, to a small extent) I did a good amount of sailing in the Chesapeake. I grew up in Maryland, and had a habit of moving back there every 5 years or so until my wife and I moved to Austin TX 10 year ago. I've been sailing three times since...

So anyway, the (early) retirement plan is 6 years away from happening now, so it's time to take some ASA classes, get a small boat for the lake, maybe schedule some charters for the yearly vacation, and begin researching good boats for the projected 10 year trip around the world. I'm 43 and plan on selling the house and being on a boat before 50.

I know, I know...heard it all before, right? Me too - trust me. I've got a kitty growing, a wife that wants to leave today, and two great friends that are seriously asking if they can come along too. I've got a business that should provide me with a small, steady income while cruising, etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, thanks for having me, and I hope that maybe I can contribute every once in a while and not just ask numerous questions. And I apologize in advance for hypothetical questions with vague parameters - I know they drive you crazy - they drive me crazy too.

Re: Hello all

Welcome! Maybe you should come on back to the Channel Islands, move UP to a Cal 28 and I'll race you out! (You might win.)

Re: Hello all

Welcome to CF Mr. Tad!

Best thing you could do is already planned... ASA with the Mrs. will be a fun time, and yes... You will "relearn" a lot that you thought you knew!

I fully endorse your pipedream... and expect it to become reality...
