...i had Czech friends till i was a teenager and moved... I knew her name sounded familiar but couldn't put my finger on why till Tony told me it's Czech... I remember them all shouting that at each other a lot whenever they were rushing and frustrated! Well, also calmer times, but they did say it a lot... Must've, if i still remember!

I miss them, hope they're well... And they made the best stew and dumplings I've still ever had, don't know if that was them or if Czech dumplings are just special!

I love how her name keeps fitting her new people, albeit in different ways

Before I even knew about her, even before trying to get that CD25 here from the US, i started organizing a plan for my sailboat... I'm a gypsyhermit, and I always knew I'd end up on a sailboat, wandering around the world cleaning beaches and tidying seas and talking to anyone who would listen about better ways to live with the planet, and why...

So now Skoro is going to be the Climate Emergency Sailboat... Because we're *almost* out of time to do enough about the climate crisis

EDIT: upon rereading, have to clarify... I am NOT changing her name... I love her name, and I respect it, regardless of how much truth may or may not be in the story (though I'll certainly look into it later)... Climate emergency sailboat is not a name, it's a job... No name-changing!!!

If you’re in the kingston ontario area I have a 6 pad cradle that once held a Grampian 26. It’s not immaculate, but if you want it you can have it.

Great plan. Don't think you need three connectors. Just get quality connectors and lock them correctly. My rode has a couple (single). No problem.

Downside of this approach is you won't be able to run the chain through a windlass. But you won't need one on a G26 anyway.

And if so, Jeepers, I'm 47 minutes drive west of Iroquois... Would that fit into your trip to look at that lovely G30?

Also, Jeepers, when would your mooring offer be available?

Question about the cradle -- if I can get it under her, she does still need to get in the water asap, right? Still can't work on her here, but it'll mean a more local mover will be able to pick her up and move her (rather than the faraway man who might be able to), is that right?

I'm having trouble navigating the messages and whatnot and keeping up, I'm probably missing answering some and I apologize... Not good with tech

Right you are, there is no charge for the cradle, and I believe I have all the adjustable pads for it. I’m not good at staying on top of the messages but I’ll try to stay in contact with you. I bought the cradle 3 or 4 years ago with plans of modifying it... well, that was 3 boats ago so there it sits. I’ll be happy to see it gone.

Stabilizing your G26.
Long poles/posts can be used to stabilize your boat for painting & safe storage.
They are used to brace the hull from the ground up to the rigging chainplates.
I make mine 2-3 ft longer and use a turn buckle, chain & shackles to make the attachment down to the chain plate.
I make mine by nailing 2x6's together, also 6x6's work well.
Extra pieces of 2x6 can be added to increase the ground footprint.
These braces placed on either side of the hull are connected together with large ratchet straps under the hull. Now you are Hurricane rigged.

I would suggest you look for a 6 pad adjustable cradle.
There are a few boat salvage, removers, breakers on Facebook & Kijiji.
They usually have them.
NB. I am currently building a trailer that will move a G26 or a G30 cradle and boat together.

Regarding charts, this is a handy website for planning (works best on a PC and requires internet)...

As for charts while sailing....not sure if this still works, but I did it a few years ago for a delivery...You get a 2 week free trial period for Navionics on your phone. You install and download your charts. Then your phone is a full featured chartplotter, and it works totally offline (no data plan required). I did this for a delivery a few years back and it worked beautifully. Anyone know if this still works?

The best deal on local charts is RICHARDSON's chartbook for LAKE ONTARIO. It includes the 1000 islands and quite far up the St Lawrence. I think its currently in its 7th edition. New sells around $100. If you can find a used one, an older edition, that would suffice.

As an aside, I've met powerboaters using a gas station road map for navigation. Needless to say, I met them because they were lost and looking for directions.

Despite all the fancy, new tech, I still use a 20+ year old garmin etrex yellow for navigation. Its taken me up and down Lake Ontario many times, and once across the Atlantic. You might want to look for an old handheld GPS that still works. No one wants these anymore, so they are pretty cheap. Yes, your phone can do the same thing, but that's a whole nother thread.
